Maybe it's still new and novel, but I LOVE going out and hanging my clothes on the line. There is something just peaceful about it. The weather has been BEAUTIFUL here this past week, and after the long and cold winter cooped up inside, I just can't get enough excuses to go outside - hanging up laundry is a great one! It's just so great to slow down, get outside, enjoy creation and smell the lilacs. There is a lilac bush, which is one of my favorites, right alongside the clothesline and it smells so good when the breeze blows past. :) It's peaceful and relaxing and so far, I'm really enjoying it.
I also hung out my a load of cloth diapers, and I loved seeing the diapers on the line. Cloth diapers hanging out to dry on a clothesline - it made me so happy, it really is the little things!
I washed our sheets and hung them out on the second day the line was up, because I've always read about how great lined dried sheets are. If you have not line dried your sheets before (I never had) you have to try it! They smell so fresh and so clean, and they come off the line nice and crisp, but still soft. I realized why fabric softeners smell the way they do, the are trying to imitate the beautiful, natural smell of nature, but of course they can't compete with the real thing!

It is a day created by Project Laundry List to educate people and communities about the benefits of line drying your clothes - it good for your wallet and for the earth. So, put up a clothesline this weekend and hang out your clothes on Monday and show your support for naturally drying your clothing!

I was just telling one of my friends that I wanted to put up a clothes line. She thought I was crazy!!! So glad to find "bloggy" friends who share similar ideas :)
ReplyDeleteI wish we could have a clothesline. We are restricted by community bylaws. I'd never heard of such a thing. We have a latice board enclosed patio so I'm thinking we could maybe "hide" a retractable one there. I'm sure going to try.

I wish I liked the smell of line dried clothes. They come off the line smelling dirty to me. But you're right in that they do save energy.
ReplyDeleteI am an enormous nerd when it comes to my clothesline! :>) I have a retractable one, too, but it is five lines across! You can see it (and my geeky tips :>)) here.

I have loved mine so far as well - and you are right, it does seem quite peaceful to go outside to hang the laundry - and the smell is very nice to me as well, :) My first load is ready to go out this National Hanging Out day!! ReplyDeleteGood for you! I actually had an idea for you to add more "line space". You could hang an upper line and a lower line. For all but really big items you could use both at the same time. I can't do that with mine because mine is in the middle of my yard, but it looks like yours is back near your fence.
ReplyDeleteI can not put up a clothesline because of my neighborhood covenants. They really are outdated and need to be changed.
ReplyDeleteThe reason I am commenting I thought a few of your readers may also be in this situation. I have found a way around it. So I can have clean smelling sheets as well. I simple purchased a clothes drying rack. I now hang my clothes up outside on it and I simply bring the rack in with me when the clothes are dry.
